Warli Workshops by Julie Ann Roberts
Warli Mural Stage, Empress Botanical Gardens, Pune, India
The Warli tribe is native to Maharastra, India. There are many different tribes that still exist across India and each one has their own specific art form. The Warli art form remains simple and symbolic, as many years ago it was used as a communcative tool between and amongst tribes. During my 18 month stay in India I trained with a local Warli artists in Pune, India and learned about the symbolic nature of this ancient art form. It is my wish to share this learning with schools in the UK and promote the use of symbolism as a communicative tool.
